Period Property Exterior Care
Why Cotswold stone needs a careful approach
Oolitic limestone — the honey-coloured stone you see throughout Burford, Chipping Norton and Moreton-in-Marsh — is relatively soft and porous. A standard domestic pressure washer on too high a setting can strip the surface layer or drive water into the stone, which then causes spalling when it freezes in winter. That kind of damage is expensive to put right.
We work at the pressure the surface calls for, not the maximum the machine allows. That means algae and grime come away cleanly, the stone face is undamaged, and the property looks like it's been properly cared for — not blasted.

Gutters
Clear flow, not cosmetic perfection
Gutters that were partially blocked will be fully cleared and flushed. Cosmetic staining on the outside of the gutter is a separate repainting job — we'll note it if we see it, but exterior painting is outside our scope. A short written report accompanies every gutter visit.
Patios
Noticeably cleaner, stone fully intact
Green growth, algae and general grime will come away. On very old stone with deep-set lichen, a single clean may not achieve a like-new result without risking the surface — we'll say so before we start, not after. Joints may need re-sanding after cleaning, which we can arrange.
Driveways
Clean, tidy and safe underfoot
Block paving and tarmac surfaces will be visibly cleaner with moss and algae removed. Oil stains respond well to pre-treatment but may not disappear entirely on older, deep-set marks. We'll give you a straightforward assessment before work starts.
